Our story

Welcome to Hostel du Nord

Hostel du Nord is an independently owned hostel in downtown Duluth, just steps from Lake Superior, Canal Park, breweries, coffee shops, restaurants and the Lakewalk.

We took over the hostel in late 2025 with a simple goal: create an affordable, welcoming place where travelers can sleep well, meet interesting people and experience everything the North Shore has to offer.

Whether you’re here for a weekend adventure, a road-trip stopover or a longer stay — we’re glad you’re here.

Why stay at a hostel?

A hostel is different from a hotel

Instead of long hallways and closed doors, hostels create opportunities to connect with fellow travelers from around the world.

One morning you might share coffee with a hiker headed up the Superior Hiking Trail. The next evening you could swap travel stories with cyclists, climbers, students or road-trippers exploring the North Shore.

Of course, if you’d rather keep to yourself, that’s perfectly fine too. Every guest chooses their own experience.

Our home sits in the heart of downtown Duluth — main hostel on one side of the alley, the Annex on the other. Family-owned. Community-focused. Built for exploring Duluth and the North Shore.
